Located in Riyadh’s JAX valley, a hub for emerging creative industry, is Omar Abduljawad’s large-scale architectural light installation Translates to “Twenty Thirty: Transformation”, is an embodiment to Saudi Arabia’s current period of transformation as it pivots from an oil dependent economy to a nation wide diversification of industry and a shift towards renewables and the vision beyond.
An architect and multidisciplinary artist, Abduljawad is interested in how reality might be expressed through higher dimensional mathematics and sacred geometry. The sculpture visualises the transformation across its monumental scale through a gradient from dark to light. The black of its base paying homage to the discovery of oil in the Kingdom; the white at the top representing the future. Its form, a repetition and scaling to the action of lifting a cube: the act of one working towards our constructive collective efforts. 12 pillars with the void in the centre creating the thirteenth – represent Saudi’s regions coming together.
While its lights are visible from afar, upon entering further meaning becomes apparent. Visitors enter through twelve black pointed arches, which are formed, erupting from the ground and widening to meet, are a homage to the discovery of oil and the growth it enabled, while also gesturing to hospitality and welcoming of the nomadic architecture and culture of the region. Looking upwards from inside, while standing on the raw ground we look through the steel, glass and light of modernity, the sculpture grows progressively brighter, framing the limitless sky above. The work stands as a public beacon, a call to build a prosperous future for ourselves, together.

وجد في حي جاكس بالرياض، مركز للصناعات الإبداعية الناشئة، تركيب إضاءة معماري واسع النطاق قام بإنشائه عمر عبد الجواد وهو تجسيد لفترة التحول الحالية في المملكة العربية السعودية نظرًا لتحول اقتصادها من الاعتماد على النفط إلى تنويع الصناعة في جميع أنحاء البلاد وكذلك التحول نحو مصادر الطاقة المتجددة وفقاً للرؤية ٢٠٣٠.
يهتم عبد الجواد، مهندس معماري وفنان متعدد التخصصات، بكيفية التعبير عن الواقع من خلال الرياضيات العالية الأبعاد والهندسة المقدسة. يصور المجسم المعماري التحول من خلال حجمه الهائل والتدرج من الظلام إلى النور. وترمز قاعدة المجسم السوداء إلى الإشادة باكتشاف النفط في المملكة؛ بينما يرمز الجزء العلوي الأبيض من المجسم إلى المستقبل. يرمز شكل المجسم إلى مكعبات تكبر بحملها من الأرض: رمزاً لمجهود شخصي وجماعي يسعى لتحقيق أهدافنا البناءة. يتألف التمثال من إثنا عشر منارة، و المساحة في الوسط تشير إلى المنارة الثالثة عشر – رمزاً إلى مناطق السعودية الموحدة.
على الرغم من رؤية أنواره عن بعد، تتكشف لك معانٍ أخرى عند الاقتراب من العمل. يدخل الزوار من خلال اثنا عشرة أقواس سوداء مدببة، والتي تتشكل وتنبثق من الأرض وتتسع لتتقابل مع بعضها البعض لترمز إلى الإشادة باكتشاف النفط والنمو الذي أتاحه وتشير أيضًا إلى كرم الضيافة والترحيب في خيم الصحراء المتنقلة وثقافة الناس و المنطقة ككل. بالنظر إلى الأعلى من الداخل، أثناء الوقوف على الأرض، فإننا ننظر من خلال الفولاذ والزجاج وضوء الحداثة حيث يزداد بهاء التمثال تدريجيًا ليؤطر السماء اللامحدودة بالأعلى. يمثل هذا العمل منارة عامة ترمز إلى ضرورة توحيد جهودنا لبناء مستقبل باهر لنا جميعًا.
